HOW IT ALL BEGUN
Eleanor Popera Jose, a true-blooded Camiguingnon, pioneered the commercialization of PASTEL on January 8, 1990, using her husband's Christmas bonus as initial capital. This marked the birth of VjANDEP PASTEL (pronounced with a silent "j," representing Virgilio Jose AND Eleanor Popera). The initial P120.00 investment yielded three dozen buns, which doubled in sales daily thereafter. Initially a hobby, Ella recognized the product's potential and continued producing PASTEL to this day.
ABOUT VJANDEP’S PASTELS
PASTEL is a Spanish term for CAKE. Through our ingenuity in grammar, PASTEL has long been called in English, as a soft dough coffee bun that the Spaniards generously taught our ancestors, making PASTEL part of a Camiguingnon delicacy.
This made PASTEL a common treat on the tables of affluent Camiguingnons of the time, especially during special gatherings and occasions, such as birthdays, weddings, fiestas, Christmas, and the like.
